Former New England Patriots and longtime Indianapolis Colts place kicker Adam Vinatieri is currently an unrestricted free agent while his NFL future still remains up in the air. Now a 47-year-old special teamer, Vinatieri is fresh off of a forgettable season, one that may have been his last atop the professional ranks of the NFL.

However, it appears as though the Colts would welcome the veteran placekicker back to Indianapolis with open arms in 2020 — if Vinatieri would like to make his return for a 25th NFL season, that is.

“[We plan] to have a sitdown with Adam and see where he’s at once he’s a little further along in that process,” Reich recently said, via the Indianapolis Star.

It is also worth noting that in addition to his age, Vinatieri encountered a season-ending knee injury in 2019-20, a setback that ultimately required surgery.

“I know he’s rehabbing that knee and it's something that [Colts general manager]  Chris [Ballard] and Frank [Reich] will talk about and give their opinions to me,” Colts team owner Jim Irsay said back in  late February, via the Indianapolis Start. “As an as owner I occasionally step in, but I like to give my people room to make mistakes. Often times that’s how you learn. The best way to learn. It hurts, but you learn that way. But Adam knows how much I think of him. He’s unbelievable. … We’ll see. He’s in rehab mode now, and we’re in the middle of trying to put the team together.”

A four-time Super Bowl Champion — three with the aforementioned Patriots and one with the Colts — Vinatieri currently holds the NFL record for most Super Bowl wins by a kicker.
