It has been nothing short of a long recovery process for Indianapolis Colts star quarterback Andrew Luck from a surgically-repaired shoulder that has well exceeded a year.
However, Luck has taken some tremendous steps forward toward returning to the field this upcoming season with his steady increase in activities on the field. According to Ian Rapoport of The NFL Network, the 28-year-old has been able to nearly regain the same arm strength that he had prior to the shoulder injury.
This is yet another encouraging sign for the Colts given that Luck continues to progress toward being able to perform at the level he previously had prior to the injury. It is another indication that he's on track to return for the start of 2018 season against the Cinncinati Bengals in Week 1, which is the target date that he has repeatedly voiced.
Indianapolis has operated much of the offseason on this notion, retooling the offensive line in the draft and free agency to provide more sufficient protection up front. Luck has proven to be a franchise-changing quarterback when healthy, taking the team to great heights by leading them to three straight playoff appearances in his first three years in the league, capped by a trip to the AFC Championship game.
Although Luck continues to make progress in his recovery, the Colts will likely stay on the cautious given his importance to the franchise. His availability in training camp will be another indication of where things lie that could see him take the field in the preseason in order to get his feet under him a bit and knock some rust off prior to the start of the 2018 campaign.
