For the first time in nearly 600 days, Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck was playing in an NFL game. And after such a long layoff, Luck couldn’t help but be thrilled to finally get back.

“It was a little bit of the pressure was off, in a sense, and I really had fun,” Luck said per Mike Wells of ESPN. “I really enjoyed it. I didn't quite know if I would have this much fun again playing football.”

Luck had a decent night, going 6-for-9 for 64 yards. He didn’t throw a touchdown, but both of his drives did lead to field goals for the Colts, who beat the Seattle Seahawks, 19-17.

More importantly, though, Luck got hit twice and got back up with no issues with his surgically-repaired shoulder. He even confessed that his first hit — courtest of Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner — was probably the “most excited I have been and will ever be for getting hit.”

Luck admits that he felt some nerves during his very first play, but he got the “natural” feel for playing the quarterback position shortly after that.

It’s certainly a promising development for Luck to finally get his first preseason game behind him. Admittedly, he’s still got some way to go before he can reach his past levels of performance. But this is a big step forward, both from a physical and mental standpoint.

Luck and the Colts will now get a couple extra days off to prepare for their next preseason game, which will be against the Baltimore Ravens on Monday, Aug. 20.
