For the third consecutive week this season, the Indianapolis Colts will miss the services of their star quarterback, Andrew Luck. This has been reported by NFL.com’s Kevin Patra, who also notes that Jacoby Brissett is already preparing as though he’s going to start next Sunday against the Cleveland Browns.

Coach Chuck Pagano confirmed Monday that the quarterback would miss the Week 3 tilt versus the Cleveland Browns.

Luck’s availability this season has been greatly affected by his recovery from an offseason surgery on his shoulder, and the Colts are undeniably feeling the effects of his absence. The team is 0-2 this season and their offense is among the ugliest in the NFL right now. Indianapolis is 11th in scoring offense (11.0 points per game) and 25th in passing yards per contest (170.0).

It hasn’t just been the same for the Colts when either Brissett or Scott Tolzien was getting the ball under center, but they have no option for now but to keep trusting the backups. Of the two, Brissett offers more upside with Tolzien wetting the bed as a starter in Week 1’s disastrous 46-9 loss to the Los Angeles Rams, going 9 of 18 for 128 passing yards with no touchdowns and a pair of picks. Brissett did better in Week 2 (216 passing yards on 20 of 37 pass attempts with an interception), albeit in a gut-wrenching 16-13 overtime loss to the Arizona Cardinals.

The Colts could have it easier against the Browns, however. Cleveland is 21st in the league in scoring defense with 22.5 points allowed per game.
