It has been a long road to recovery for Indianapolis Colts star quarterback Andrew Luck from surgery on his right shoulder. This has seen him remain on the physically unable to play list for the entire offseason which doesn't appear to be changing anytime soon.

According to Mike Wells of ESPN, Colts owner Jim Irsay voiced much uncertainty about Luck's status for the season opener against the Los Angeles Rams.

“I don't want to act that it is a foregone conclusion that he's not going to be starting out there [against the Rams],” Irsay said after his team's 24-10 preseason loss to the Detroit Lions on Sunday. “I mean, he could but also could not. We don't see an extended delay, but we're not going to put a timetable on it. We will not put any pressure on this decision.”

It has been quite a difficult situation for Luck to deal with as the surgery repaired an issue that he had originally suffered back in Week 3 of the 2015 NFL season. He had played through the injury from that point on through last season and finally underwent surgery this past January.

Given the nature of the injury and how far it dates back, it's only reasonable for the organization to take a careful approach. Luck has ingrained himself as the franchise quarterback that holds tremendous value to the Colts' long-term.

There may be no timetable on the injury, but the fact that he's progressing in the right direction is a good sign. Ultimately, it's a process where both patience and carefulness must be exercised fully.
