It is no secret that the Indianapolis Colts endured a disastrous 2017 NFL season. The year for wide receiver Chester Rogers was reminiscent of the disappointment his team suffered.

However, he is much more optimistic about his role in the offense for the 2018 NFL season. According to Zak Keefer of the IndyStar, both he and wide receiver Ryan Grant are pegged as the favorites to secure the No. 2 job:

Both Grant and Rogers will soon be battling it out for the role of WR2 — aka T.Y. Hilton’s lead sidekick — in a revamped and redesigned Colts’ offense that’s desperate for some juice — not to mention its Dr. Dre back in the fold. Both wideouts have plenty to prove. Both, too, have plenty of opportunity.

Rogers enjoyed a stellar offseason last year and was pegged to secure the WR2 spot going into the 2017 NFL season. Unfortunately, lingering hamstring issues ultimately relegated him to a minor role in the offense. As a result, he registered just 23 catches for 284 yards and a touchdown.

Although it may have been a disappointing sophomore campaign for Rogers, there is still good reason for him to be optimistic about his chances this time around. However, he will face some stiff competition in the form of Grant.

The four-year veteran is coming off his best season yet with 45 receptions for 573 yards and four touchdowns. He was poised to sign a lucrative contract with the Baltimore Ravens before failing his physical and signing a one-year deal with the Colts.

That said, both players are looking to step their games up this year along the likes of wide receiver T.Y. Hilton and quarterback Andrew Luck.
