New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels will officially become the new head coach of the Indianapolis Colts not too long after the Super Bowl. He already has his defensive coordinator lined up in former Dallas Cowboys coach Matt Eberflus.

And now, it appears that former Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell has become a top target to run McDaniels’ offense in Indianapolis.

Bevell was let go earlier this offseason after serving as Seattle’s offensive coordinator for seven seasons. He had what should be regarded as a successful tenure with the Seahawks. He orchestrated some of the best offensive seasons in Seahawks franchise history and also helped them to back-to-back Super Bowl appearances.

With that impressive resume, Bevell has hardly been short of job prospects since hitting the market. He’s already interviewed for offensive coordinator jobs with the Arizona Cardinals and the Minnesota Vikings. He played college football at Wisconsin alongside current Colts general manager Chris Ballard.

McDaniels and his offensive coordinator will have a big job ahead of them in resuscitating a Colts offense which fell off a cliff without quarterback Andrew Luck last season. Luck missed the entire year as he underwent shoulder surgery and is just about to start throwing again. Without Luck, the Colts finished 30th in the league in points per game and 31st in yards per game.

Bevell has a lot of experience in manufacturing effective offenses in Seattle despite subpar offensive line play. He will likely have to deal with a similarly bad O-line unit in Indianapolis. However, it remains to be seen if his offense can continue to thrive without the unique mobility of Rusell Wilson playing quarterback.
