For the first time in his NFL career, tight end Eric Ebron hit the free agent market with an opportunity to play for a team other than the Detriot Lions. Shortly after becoming an available asset on the open market, Ebron quickly latched onto the Indianapolis Colts on a two-year deal worth up to $15 million.

It has given him the opportunity to play alongside one of the game's top quarterbacks in Andrew Luck for the next chapter of his career. According to Zak Keefer of the Indy Star News, Ebron stated on Tuesday at the team's first official workout that the chance to play with Luck was the overriding reason why he chose to sign with the Colts.

“The reason I came here is because of Andrew Luck, to keep it honest,” Ebron said after the Colts’ first team meeting of 2018. “It doesn’t really matter where I played or where I went, I just wanted a quarterback that I knew could get me the ball and pretty much work with me the way I knew that I needed to be worked with. And I think Andrew Luck was the perfect fit.”

The 24-year-old is coming out of a situation where he played with another highly talented quarterback in Matthew Stafford in his first four seasons in the league.

Luck is currently still rehabbing from a surgically-repaired shoulder but appears to be on track to return to the field at some point this offseason.

If he is able to return this upcoming season,  there will be a huge opportunity for Ebron to put together a breakout year that could overshadow his 2016 campaign where he set careers highs across the board with 61 catches for 711 receiving yards and a touchdown.

New head coach Frank Reich has already spoken quiet highly of Ebron, calling him an “elite” tight end in the league, which should translate to a major role in the passing game.

All of this points to Ebron quickly acquiescing as one of Luck's primary targets in the passing game that could see him further emerge as one of the top talents at his position. It could turn out to be the ideal landing spot for this next chapter of his career.
