What a difference a year makes – just ask Eric Ebron.

Before last season, the 2014 first-round pick was mostly known for being a cautionary tale about drafting tight ends in the top-10. Many Detroit Lions fans, for instance, blanched at their team selecting Iowa T.J. Hockenson with the eighth overall pick in this year's draft precisely because Ebron's lack of impact during his time in the Motor City still has them skeptical of using such a prized commodity on a tight end.

But with the Indianapolis Colts, the fifth-year pro has completely revitalized his career. Finally living up to his draft position Eric Ebron isn't content with the stellar numbers he put up during his debut season catching passes from Andrew Luck. Instead, he has his sights set on breaking records.

During his breakout sophomore season in the NFL, Rob Gronkowski had 90 catches for 1,327 yards and 17 touchdowns, the record for a tight end. The New England Patriots icon retired after last season, finishing his Hall-of-Fame career with 79 touchdown catches, the third-most all-time among tight ends.

Eric Ebron, meanwhile, had just 11 touchdown catches through his first four professional seasons. He exploded in 2018 after signing a two-year deal with the Colts, though, catching 66 passes for 750 yards and a whopping 13 touchdowns – first among tight ends, and second in the league overall behind Antonio Brown's 15 touchdown catches.

Don't be surprised if Ebron takes advantage of a year of experience playing with the Colts to build on his stellar 2018 campaign. As for breaking Gronkowski's record, though? That seems just a bit less likely.
