After many believed his longevity was in doubt after sitting out the entire 2017 season with a lingering issue to his throwing shoulder, Andrew Luck re-established himself as one of the best quarterbacks in football last season.

The reigning Comeback Player of the Year threw for 4,593 yards, 39 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions in 2018 while completing a career-best 67.3 percent of his passes. More importantly, Luck, with the help of a much-improved young defense, led the Indianapolis Colts back to the playoffs for the first time since 2014, where they beat the Houston Texans on the road before falling to the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium.

Needless to say, Luck is once again firmly entrenched as his team's quarterback of the present and future. Just because Luck has put those major injury concerns behind him, though, hardly means Indianapolis is prepared to part with backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett. In fact, coach Frank Reich believes his team's second-stringer has the talent to be an NFL starter, just one reason why he hopes the Colts hang onto him for the foreseeable future.

“It’s impossible for me to have a higher opinion of Jacoby than I do,” he said, per 1070 The Fan. “I said it last year, I think he’s a top 20 quarterback. I still say that. After watching him for a year, this guy’s really good.

“I tell [general manager Chris Ballard] all the time, ‘Please don’t let him go. I don’t care what anybody offers him. Don’t let him go.’ I love Jacoby. The problem is now I’ve gotten to know Jacoby and, at some point, I hope that it works out for Jacoby. But not now.”

Indianapolis acquired Brissett, a rising fourth-year pro, from the New England Patriots in September 2017 after it became clear Luck would be sidelined for the season's duration. In 23 appearances through his career, he's thrown for 3,500 yards, 13 touchdowns, and seven interceptions with a completion rate of 59.1 percent.

Brissett, 26, will be a free agent after this season.
