Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Devin Funchess has been dealing with back spasms, but head coach Frank Reich seems pretty sure that Funchess will be available for Week 1:

“He’s made good progress, and we fairly confident he’ll be ready,’’ said Reich, according to Ed Werder of ESPN.

The Colts signed Funchess earlier this offseason, finally giving them a reliable No. 2 receiver alongside of T.Y. Hilton.

Funchess, who played his collegiate football at the University of Michigan, was originally selected by the Carolina Panthers in the second round (41st pick overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft.

He played in 16 games during his rookie campaign, catching 31 passes for 473 yards and five touchdowns. Then, the following year, Funchess took a bit of a step back, as he logged just 23 catches for 371 yards and four scores.

It wasn't until his third year in the league that Funchess truly broke out, as he hauled in 63 receptions for 840 yards while reaching the end zone eight times in 2017.

The 25-year-old is coming off of a 2018 campaign in which he snared 44 balls for 549 yards and four touchdowns.

Of course, the Colts were rocked this past weekend when franchise quarterback Andrew Luck announced his retirement, thrusting Jacoby Brissett into the starting role under center.

Indianapolis was set to enter the 2019 season as a Super Bowl contender, with many picking the Colts to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl.

However, Luck's decision to call it quits has obviously changed things, as now, Indy will have to battle just to make the playoffs.
