Indianapolis Colts quarterback Jacoby Brissett had once again been the subject of some trade speculation this offseason. Fortunately, head coach Frank Reich is happy about Brissett's status for the 2019 NFL season.

Brissett is set to test the waters of free agency after the season. According to Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan, Reich is enjoying the luxury of having a solid backup while he still can:

“It’s impossible for me to have a higher opinion of Jacoby than I do,” Reich says. “I said it last year, I think he’s a top 20 quarterback. I still say that. After watching him for a year, this guy’s really good.

“I tell Chris all the time, ‘Please don’t let him go. I don’t care what anybody offers him. Don’t let him go.’ I love Jacoby. The problem is now I’ve gotten to know Jacoby and, at some point, I hope that it works out for Jacoby. But not now.”

Reich's comments are certainly understandable. The Colts had initially traded for Brissett to serve as a viable replacement while quarterback Andrew Luck healed from a severe shoulder injury. Despite the team's lackluster season, he showed plenty of promise under center.

As a result, there had been plenty of speculation regarding Brissett's future in Indianapolis now that quarterback-hungry teams were looking to make a deal for him. Although Luck had proven that he was back and better than ever, it seems Reich still made sure the front office knew of his desire to keep him around.

This may very well be the last year he can take solace in having two viable quarterbacks on the roster. If all goes well, Brissett will hardly have to see the field while remaining as healthy as possible for free agency next year.
