The Indianapolis Colts have struggled to find a franchise quarterback ever since the shocking retirement of Andrew Luck. They've gone through a slew of guys since, from the likes of Jacoby Brissett to Philip Rivers to more recently, Carson Wentz. This offseason, they brought in former MVP Matt Ryan from the Falcons. More recently, the Colts signed Nick Foles for depth behind Ryan. In an article via NFL.com by Grant Gordon, Reich revealed why the Colts brought in Foles.

It's not at all surprising that Reich has wanted Foles in Indianapolis for a few years now. Reich famously coached both Foles and Wentz in Philadelphia just a few years ago. That was where each of those two quarterbacks made a name for themselves, as Foles in particular has struggled finding his footing since. Reich specifically mentioned Foles' leadership and the fact that he's been to the biggest stage and done it.

The former Eagle acknowledged that it's “Matt's team”, but he should fit right in as a viable backup option. He'll also provide some leadership within the Colts locker room, which is always an added bonus. Reich has been particularly impressed by Matt Ryan's accuracy.

In what was a bleak quarterback room just a few months ago, the Colts now have a decently talented core there. Beyond Ryan and Foles, they also have rookie Jack Coan and former Texas Longhorn Sam Ehlinger. After narrowly missing out on the playoffs last season, it seems to be a realistic goal for 2022, especially with Ryan at QB now.
