Although the Indianapolis Colts have undergone some major changes to the coaching staff this offseason, their focus for the 2018 NFL season remains the same. That is getting quarterback Andrew Luck as healthy as possible. New head coach Frank Reich has been optimistic about Luck, who is “in the final stages of his rehab” and is back on a football field for the first time since October.

According to Zak Keefer of the Indianapolis Star, Luck is back to doing just about everything a quarterback should be doing — except throw a football. However, Reich doesn't see any reason why they should be rushing their star:

“There’s no reason to take any big chances,” Reich said. “Everything is going so well. What we’re doing and learning as an offense right now, it’s going very well. He’s engaged at every level.”

Reich's update should hardly come as any surprise. Luck has endured a tumultuous healing process that dates back to last season. Reich has sung the praises of him being one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL when healthy. That said, having a player of Luck's caliber would certainly help smoothen his transition to head coach.

Although he may be in no rush to get Luck involved in practices, Reich is hopeful that he will be able to make his return by the time the season starts. However, it is safe to take any comments about Luck's health with a grain of salt given all that transpired last year.

Luck had surgery to repair a lingering shoulder issue following the 2016 NFL season. Team owner Jim Irsay was adamant that the former Pro Bowler would make his return by the season opener. However, Luck ultimately wound up missing the entire season. Needless to say, it seems the Colts are looking to avoid making the same mistakes this time around.
