The Indianapolis Colts stomped the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday afternoon, shutting them out by a score of 23-0 at Lucas Oil Stadium and preserving their playoff hopes.

Afterward, Colts head coach Frank Reich had high praise for the defense, according to Jim Ayello of The Indianapolis Star:

“What the defense did today was unreal,” said Reich. “They were absolutely lights out.”

Indianapolis held the Cowboys to just 292 total yards, forcing a couple of turnovers and limiting the to just 4.6 yards per play.

The Colts are ranked 10th in the league defensively, allowing 341.5 yards per game on average.

With the win, Indianapolis improved to 8-6 and kept pace in the tight AFC Wild Card race. The Baltimore Ravens currently hold the second and final Wild Card spot in the conference courtesy of tiebreakers, but the Colts and Ravens each have eight wins.

Indianapolis is looking to make it back to the playoffs after having missed the postseason for three straight years. Prior to 2015, the Colts had made the playoffs in 12 of 13 seasons from 2002 through 2014.

The team went just 4-12 last year as it played the entire season without quarterback Andrew Luck, who was rehabbing a shoulder injury that just wouldn't seem to get any better.

Indy will play host to the New York Giants next weekend before heading on the road to take on the Tennessee Titans—who are also in the AFC Wild Card hunt at 8-6—in its final game of the regular season on Dec. 30.

The Colts have gone 7-1 over their last eight games after a 1-5 start.
