The Indianapolis Colts took a clear step back at the quarterback position after Andrew Luck made his decision to retire. With Jacoby Brissett producing underwhelming results, forgetting about the idea of Luck returning to NFL action has been difficult.

When asked about the possibility of Luck return to the NFL, Colts head coach Frank Reich stated that he ‘thinks he's retired.' However, they remain in communication with each other as friends.

“He’s a friend. I talk to him, we communicate. I sense none of that. We don’t talk about that. I think he’s retired,” Reich told Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. “He’s like any other ex-player. You’re always going to miss your buddies in the locker room. That’s normal. I don’t read into that a clue that he wants to come back. He’s just a good friend.”

There has been nothing indicating a possible NFL return for Luck. Whether it's been his dad, Reich, or Colts general manager Chris Ballard, they've all expressed their belief that Luck is happily retired.

The Colts will need to move on from the idea that Luck will ever return. The toll that all of the injuries he sustained playing football were too much to continue to persevere through. It's difficult to envision his mindset changing about that.

When looking at the Colts' roster, they have a clear need to upgrade at the quarterback position. That's something that must be addressed this offseason as their 7-9 record in 2019 had plenty to do with a lack of dynamic passing production.

It won't be easy for the Colts to find their quarterback of the future and it may not even happen this offseason. Looking at a temporary option in free agency to tide them over for a few seasons could help buy some time if they're not sold on their options in the 2020 NFL Draft.
