It goes without saying the Seattle Seahawks made some significant changes to their roster this offseason. It appears they were not done after rumors surfaced of their attempts to acquire Indianapolis Colts quarterback Jacoby Brissett.

It was reported that general manager Chris Ballard was looking trade a second-round pick in exchange for Brissett. However, Ballard ESPN's Booger McFarland said prior to the Colts' Monday Night Game that Ballard denied the reports, via Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk:

According to ESPN’s Booger McFarland, Ballard said before Monday night’s preseason game between the Colts and the Ravens that the Seahawks did not attempt to trade for backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett.

It is always difficult to gauge the severity of the negotiations in these instances. Regardless, it is clear that Ballard is not looking to usher in such speculation. It is easy to see why considering what it would likely mean for the Seahawks moving forward.

Brissett is coming off a solid 2017 campaign where he was able to make a name for himself as a legitimate starter. As a result, he has been at the forefront of several trade rumors throughout the offseason. That said, it is interesting to see that the Seahawks even came up at all in the running considering they have a star quarterback in Russell Wilson.

Seattle parted ways with a number of their key veterans players this offseason. As much as they have denied it, the moves indicate that they are in the midst of a full-fledged rebuild. Unfortunately, their attempts to address the holes in their personnel coincides with Wilson's looming contract extension.

Wilson has established himself as one of the best quarterbacks in the league and is in store for a lucrative pay day. However, the Seahawks may not find it practical to pay top-dollar for Wilson while they are still far from championship contention.
