It has been a long path back to a full recovery from a surgically repaired right shoulder for Indianapolis Colts star quarterback Andrew Luck. However, he finally appears to be headed in the right direction with the expectation that he will be on the field at some point this offseason with eyes toward playing in the 2018 season.

According to Andrew Walker of Colts.com, General manager Chris Ballard voiced that he strongly believes that this has created a huge personal amount of motivation on the shoulders to prove any of the doubters wrong.

“I think it’s a great thing when you have a great player with a chip (on his shoulder) — and we’ve got one,” Ballard said. “And that's going to be fun for all of us.”

The 28-year-old has gone through several setbacks along the way that has pushed forward some uncertainty about his ability at this point in his career. There had even been some suggestions during that time that he could require additional surgery, but he has been able to avoid that this time around in his rehab over the last few months.

Things have shifted tremendously over the last few months of the offseason that both ownership and the front office has spoken publicly about their optimism surrounding the Pro Bowl quarterback's health. This had even seen owner Jim Irsay state that the team is relying greatly on Luck to help lead the team in 2018.

When healthy, he has proven to be one of the game’s best quarterbacks that can lead the team to success behind his arm, which he did with three straight playoff appearances in each of his first three years in the league. There doesn't appear to be any urgency to get him back on the field, but comments like this give off the sense that he's not far off from being back in the fold.
