D'Onta Foreman's time on the waiver wire didn't last long. A day after the Houston Texans released the running back, their AFC South foe, the Indianapolis Colts claimed him, according to the Houston Chronicle‘s Aaron Wilson, via Twitter. The Colts will pay Foreman's team-friendly rookie-scale contract.

Foreman was a surprising release for Texans Nation, as just two years prior, the team selected him in the third round of the NFL Draft. Coming out of Texas, the former Longhorn had just won the Doak Walker Award (nation's best running back), rushed for 2,028 yards, and named to the 2016 first-team All-Big 12.

Playing behind Lamar Miller, Foreman never settled into a starting role with the Texans. In his rookie year, he rushed for 327 yards and two touchdowns before tearing his Achilles against the Arizona Cardinals. The injury forced him out of the next season, save for one game when he rushed for -1 yards.

However, Foreman is healthy again. The cause of the release from the Texans isn't entirely known, as he expected to be the backup back to Miller and eventual starter. Those with inside information to the Texans cited a questionable work ethic as a reason.

Nonetheless, Foreman stands as a promising back entering year three with his Achilles injury behind him. The Colts have worked out several running backs since the draft, not signing any, then learned that new addition, Spencer Ware, would be out after an injury.

Foreman appears to be the consolation after placing Ware on the physically unable to perform list.
