Jacoby Brissett has already worn a lot of hats for the Indianapolis Colts. Now, it seems he could be a hybrid, of sorts.

With Philip Rivers slated to take over as the starter in Indy, Colts head coach Frank Reich said he might deploy Brissett in a role similar to that of New Orleans Saints quarterback Taysom Hill (via Stephen Holder of The Athletic).

“You’ve got a what we consider a future Hall-of-Fame QB, you think, ‘Well, it’s hard to take him off the field.’ But you look at what the Saints have done, and not that we have the exact same dynamic . . . I mean Jacoby and Taysom Hill are different types of players,” Reich said, via Stephen Holder of The Athletic. “But Jacoby is a really good player and there are certain ways that we think that we could use him. If we think those ways are going to help us win football games, then we will be open to doing that.”

The Colts acquired Brissett from the New England Patriots to be their primary backup, but he was thrust into a starting role after Andrew Luck suddenly announced his retirement last August.

Brissett performed admirably, given the circumstances. The former NC State standout went 7-8 in 15 starts, throwing for nearly 3,000 yards and 18 touchdowns against just six interceptions.

But the Colts struggled to move the ball through the air, and opted to sign the veteran Rivers to a one-year deal in the offseason.

Still, it is possible—given Reich's comments—Brissett could see his fair share of offensive snaps this year.

Like Hill, Brissett is a big and physical quarterback capable of running and making plays all over the field.

If nothing else, it seems the Colts could display more creativity this year.
