The Indianapolis Colts have released defensive lineman Margus Hunt, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Hunt played in every game and made five starts in 2019, logging 17 tackles.

The 32-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Southern Methodist University, was originally selected by the Cincinnati Bengals in the second round (53rd pick overall) of the 2013 NFL Draft.

In spite of being an early draft pick, Hunt did not get off the bench much for the Bengals.

Through four seasons in Cincinnati, Hunt played in a grand total of 44 of a possible 64 regular-season games, accumulating 29 tackles and 1.5 sacks during his unproductive tenure with the club.

Hunt then signed a two-year deal with the Colts in 2017, where he finally began to receive an opportunity.

The Estonia native appeared in every contest and made five starts in his first season in Indianapolis, registering 29 tackles and a sack. The following year, Hunt had a breakout campaign, starting all 15 games in which he participated and rattling off 30 tackles, five sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

As a result of Hunt's strong season in 2018, the Colts re-signed the lineman on a one-year deal last March.

However, he had a pretty disappointing campaign in 2019.

Indy got off to a 5-2 start this past season, but due much in part to a rash of injuries that befell the offense during the second half of the year, the Colts went just 2-7 over their final nine games, going 7-9 overall and missing the playoffs.

The good news is that Indianapolis has a wealth of cap room entering free agency.
