The Indianapolis Colts are reportedly releasing starting cornerback Pierre Desir, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Last offseason, Desir signed a 3 year, $25 million deal with the Colts. The Colts will now be saving roughly $6.85 million by cutting him.

Desir had an outstanding season in the 2019 campaign, recording 50 tackles, 11 pass deflections, and three interceptions in 12 games. However, Desir did struggle with injuries last season. He missed four games last season with a hamstring injury.

Nevertheless, Desir has shown incredible character off the field. He was the Colts nominee for the Walter Payton Man of the Year. Recently, Desir donated 20,000 meals to help St. Louis Food Bank in coronavirus crisis:

“Being in a different city in Indy, and then being able to come back home, I just want the community to know that even though I don’t live there year-round, that I still care for them,” Desir said.

Following a standout career at Lindenwood University, Desir was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft. In his six seasons in the NFL, Desir has recorded five interceptions, 161 solo tackles, two forced fumbles, and 34 passes defended.

At 29 years old, Desir is still at the peak of his career. He'll certainly be a starter in whichever team he decides to sign with. For the Colts, they'll most likely be using one of their picks in this upcoming draft to select a cornerback.

The Colts currently have four cornerbacks in their depth chart, Kenny Moore, Rock Ya-Sin, Marvell Tell, and Quincy Wilson.
