After not drafting a running back over the weekend the Indianapolis Colts announced they have signed running back Spencer Ware to a one-year deal. They also announced they waived safety Isaiah Johnson and defensive tackle DeShawn Williams, and released wideout James Wright.

Last year, Ware spent his time with the Kansas City Chiefs having 470 total yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns in 13 games. He spent most of the time as the backup, but was still productive when the team called on him.

Ware's best season was in 2016 when he had 1,368 yards from scrimmage and five touchdowns in 14 starts. It looked like he was the future of the team, but missed all of the 2017 season with a knee injury and that cost him his chance along with Kareem Hunt taking over as the feature back, before he was also released from the team.

Ware visited with the Colts last month along with the New York Jets and the Detroit Lions, but it's unclear just how much interest the other two teams had.

Ware joins a pretty crowded backfield in Indianapolis and he is probably going to have to earn his spot with the team. Marlon Mack led the team with 908 yards and nine touchdowns last year. Jordan Wilkins and Nyheim Hines also were in the backfield last year and both played roles at times during the season.

It's unclear if the team plans on keeping four running backs, but to have a job next season with the Colts, Ware is going to have to have a good offseason.
