Although Peyton Manning rounded out his NFL career with the Denver Broncos in 2015, he will always be an Indianapolis Colts legend through and through. And to honor Manning, the Colts organization commissioned a statue based on Manning’s likeness and unveiled it on Saturday outside of the legendary quarterback’s old stomping grounds, Lucas Oil Stadium.

Several luminaries were present during this momentous day in Manning’s life, including former Colts head coach Tony Dungy, who reserved some very kind words for his quarterback, per Zak Keefer of the Indianapolis Star.

Dungy and Manning were the main driving forces of the Colts’ 2007 Super Bowl title run.

Also present were NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, retired late-night show host David Letterman, and former Indianapolis general manager Bill Polian along with ex-Colts center, Jeff Saturday.

Letterman entertained the crowd with jokes and quips and not even Manning’s younger brother, Eli, was spared.

From Fox59.com:

“If you like football trivia, so far this year Eli and Peyton have won the same number of games,” Letterman said.

In 13 years of playing for Indianapolis, Manning amassed tantalizing numbers of 54,828 passing yards, 399 touchdowns, and a 64.9 completion percentage.

Manning was drafted first overall by the Colts in 1998 and went on to win four league MVPs while with the team to go with 11 Pro Bowl appearances and five first-team All-Pro selections.

It’s going to be a long time before Indianapolis will have someone like Manning again. If it is at, all, ever going to happen.
