The Indianapolis Colts signed veteran quarterback Philip Rivers to be their signal-caller in 2020 as they hope to reassert themselves as contenders in the AFC. Still, while Rivers is the starting quarterback for the future, many draft pundits suggested the Colts would select a quarterback in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Indeed, the Colts took former Washington quarterback Jacob Eason in the fourth round, and head coach Frank Reich believes they are getting the guy with the best arm in this year's class (via Kevin Hickey of USA TODAY):

“Yeah, I think his arm talent was probably the best in the draft as far as quarterbacks go,” said head coach Frank Reich. “What I liked about his arm talent is he can throw it on a rope, he can throw it long, he can throw with touch, he can change the speed on the ball and he can deliver from different arm angles.”

Reich added Eason has a lot to learn in terms of the mental aspects of the game and also said Eason needs to improve his footwork. But Reich noted Eason has all the physical tools to be successful.

Eason threw for 3,132 yards and 23 touchdowns against eight interceptions with the Huskies in 2019. But the Colts are more excited about what he could be down the road.

“Arm talent” is one of the most commonly used terms in evaluating a quarterback prospect. While guys like Eason and Justin Herbert might not have been the most prolific passers during their collegiate days, they are intriguing because of their makeup.

Eason will have ample opportunity to learn under Rivers and Jacoby Brissett, and the Colts are hoping he might emerge as their signal-caller of the future.
