Jack Doyle is going to be catching passes from Philip Rivers in the upcoming season with the Indianapolis Colts. But the veteran tight end still remembers not being a huge fan of Rivers at one point.

During a video interview with Larra Overton of the team's official website, Doyle admitted that he couldn't stand Rivers earlier in his life.

“I remember those tough losses to the Chargers. Man, I couldn't stand Philip Rivers as a kid. I've got in the NFL and realized that the reason I couldn't stand him is because he was good at what he did. And you gain a respect for him when you're watching him on film.”

Doyle, an Indianapolis native, grew up as a fan of the Colts. Therefore, signing with the Colts as an undrafted free agent in 2013 was a dream come true for the Western Kentucky product.

However, while watching Indianapolis play, the Colts and the Los Angeles Chargers had plenty of battles when Rivers was with the Chargers from 2004-2019. Of course, the matchup of Rivers versus Peyton Manning — and then Andrew Luck — was must-watch television for fans.

So for Doyle, seeing Rivers have his fair share of success against the Colts prompted him to have somewhat of a grudge for the gunslinging quarterback. But after arriving in the NFL and now that he's his quarterback, Doyle has developed a newfound respect for Rivers.

Before beginning his career in the NFL, Doyle once viewed Rivers as the enemy of his favorite football team. Now, both of them are joining forces in hopes to achieve one common goal — a Super Bowl.
