While the Indianapolis Colts front office continues to address their roster needs this offseason, current players are getting ready to follow through on the high expectations that have been placed on the team moving forward. Among them is tight end Jack Doyle.

Doyle endured an injury-plagued 2018 NFL season. According to Zak Keefer of the Indianapolis Star, head coach Frank Reich is optimistic to have him back by training camp:

As for Doyle, who recovered from a hip injury early in the season only to suffer a lacerated kidney in late November, Reich said the veteran tight end is expected to return to form by training camp. He underwent surgery after the season to alleviate the lingering pain in his hip.

Doyle was forced to miss five games due to a hip injury last season. He then suffered a lacerated kidney a short time later and was forced to sit out the rest of the 2018 campaign. As a result, he only took part in six games during the Colts' impressive season.

The 29-year-old is entering the final year of his contract. This makes next season a bit of a deciding year for him moving forward. Indianapolis already has a Pro Bowl tight end in Eric Ebron, however, it is no secret that his specialty is in the passing game. Meanwhile, Doyle plays an integral role as the primary tight end in run packages.

As a result, the Colts will be looking to rely heavily on both of their tight ends to help their offense maintain a balanced approach. Although they may have favored the run last season, Reich has indicated that establishing a strong run game will be a top priority for them. This means Doyle could very well be utilized now more than ever if he can remain healthy.
