Jacoby Brissett will be handing over the starting quarterback job on the Indianapolis Colts to Philip Rivers in 2020.

Despite being relegated to a backup role again this season, Brissett promises to be an NFL starting quarterback again at some point in his career.

“I still believe in myself,” Brissett told reporters Friday, via Mike Chappell of Fox 59. “I know I'm a starter in this league. I know I can play at a very high level. I did it last year.

“I know I'll be a starter in this league one day, again, wherever that may be.”

Ahead of the 2019 season, Brissett was quickly thrust into the starting role for the Colts due to Andrew Luck's surprising retirement. Brissett was accustomed to starting in Indianapolis as he started in 15 games for the team in 2017 due to Luck missing the entire season then.

Similar to the 2017 campaign, Brissett would start in 15 games for the Colts last season. Altogether, in his 15 starts, Brissett threw for 2,942 yards, 18 touchdowns, and six interceptions. Those numbers are a bit disappointing considering he had 14 touchdowns in his first six starts.

After Brissett's disappointing latter part of the 2019 season, the Colts decided to sign Rivers in free agency. Seeing that Rivers is accustomed to Frank Reich's offense, he won't need much time to get acclimated to his new team.

On the other hand, Brissett is entering the final year of his current contract with Indianapolis. While Brissett is going to be the No. 2 option for the Colts in 2020, he hopes to be the No. 1 option elsewhere sometime soon.
