Following their disastrous 2017 NFL season, the Indianapolis Colts are looking ahead toward brighter days, to say the least. At the forefront of their comeback is quarterback Andrew Luck, who is still in the process of nursing his lingering shoulder injury.

Fortunately, it may not be long before he is back in full swing.  According to Mike Chappell of Indianapolis’ WTTV, team owner Jim Irsay says Luck may be approaching the final stages of his rehab:

“All indicators are [the] healing is going really well, and we feel really optimistic that he’s turned the corner and has a full decade ahead of him of excellence,’’ Irsay said. “That’s a long period of time.’’

Irsay even went so far as to say that he expects Luck to take a page out of Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre's book.

“I expect him to throw quite a bit,’’ Irsay said. “I expect him to channel his Brett Favre, if you will, and just say ‘The hell with it. Let’s go play football; let’s go rock and roll.’

It is encouraging to hear a positive update on Luck's troublesome shoulder. That said, it would still be wise to take Irsay's comments with a grain of salt. It was around this time last year where he gave a similar update on Luck's health before he ultimately wound up missing the entire 2017 campaign.

Fortunately, he has had much more time to heal since then and now seems to be on the fast track to making his return to the field. Meanwhile, the Colts have managed to surround him with better pieces to aid his comeback, beginning with the addition of new head coach Frank Reich.

Meanwhile, they also made a splash by acquiring a bevy of picks from the New York Jets in exchange for the No. 3 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.
