The Indianapolis Colts are stuck in a crossroad with star quarterback Andrew Luck's status for the 2017 NFL season up in the air due to his recovery from shoulder surgery.

Despite that being the case, team owner Jim Irsay recently stated that the team has not considered bringing in free agent veteran quarterback Colin Kaepernick, according to Gregg Doyel of The Indianapolis Star.

“We did have a [quarterback] candidate or two,” Irsay said. “I think that we came semi-close to bringing in a mid-30, mid-to-late 30 guy. We had a [salary] number. The guy wanted more than the number. It wasn’t Kaepernick. It just didn’t work out so we moved on.”

The Colts current backup to Luck is veteran quarterback Scott Tolzien, who played in three games last season where he completed 23 of 37 pass attempts for 216 passing yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. He also has brief in-game experience being the backup for Aaron Rodgers with the Green Bay Packers from 2013 to 2015.

It's likely that Kaepernick doesn't fit the type of quarterback that the Colts are looking to run their offensive system. The 29-year-old has operated more in the style of using his feet to create plays rather than be a prototypical pocket quarterback.

At the same time, he has struggled to show development in his passing ability with persistent issues with his throwing mechanics that have contributed to his woes. It could be fairly argued that his lack of employment in the NFL is due to his porous play on the field rather than this political stance.

If anything this just crosses off the list a potential landing spot for Kaepernick as he looks to continue his NFL career.
