Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. gave fans something to be excited about on Saturday.

The 23-year old rookie tweeted that he ran on the turf for the first time since suffering a leg injury during their Week 3 game against the New York Jets.

Michael Pittman Jr., the son of former running back and NFL champ Michael Pittman Sr., suffered from a leg compartment syndrome. He picked up the injury in the second quarter of the Colts' win over the Jets. The injury required surgery, which projected him to miss time until Indianapolis' Week 7 bye at the very least.

Pittman Jr. reportedly didn't feel the immediate effects of the injury. However, he opted to go under the knife to quickly relieve the pressure in his leg.

While he will likely still be on the sidelines for the next few weeks, this is still encouraging news for Colts fans. The development comes right before the team plays the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 6.

After a four-year stint at the University of South Carolina, Indianapolis drafted Pittman Jr. in the second round with the 34th pick of the draft. The Colts certainly saw a lot of promise from their rookie wideout, and he just started to flash his potential prior to going down with the leg injury.

Indianapolis surely can't wait to get their rookie back. The team's passing offense has been struggling with Pittman Jr. out, as well as with fellow wide receiver Parris Campbell out indefinitely with an MCL/PCL injury.
