The Indianapolis Colts are undecided at quarterback in 2020 and Philip Rivers could become an option in free agency. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Rivers and Indianapolis share ‘mutual interest' in joining forces.

Following the sudden retirement of Andrew Luck, the Colts were inclined to start Jacoby Brissett in 2019. After a decent start to the season, Brissett wavered as the season progressed. As a result, Chris Ballard, the GM of the Colts, left the door open for Indianapolis to make a change at quarterback this offseason.

On the other hand, the Los Angeles Chargers have already made it clear that Rivers won't be returning to the team next season. Therefore, the veteran signal-caller will become a coveted option for teams that are in need of a quarterback.

Just by connecting the dots, the Colts make sense for Rivers as a team to sign with. Prior to accepting the head coaching job with Indianapolis, Frank Reich was the quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator with the Chargers from 2013-2015.

Provided that, he has previous experience with Rivers as his quarterback. In addition, Colts offensive coordinator, Nick Sirianni, also worked with Rivers before with the Chargers. Seeing that he's worked with Reich and Sirianni, Rivers is comfortable with Indianapolis' offensive system.

However, besides the Colts, there are going to be other teams that extend offers to Rivers once free agency begins. Even though he's coming off of a down season, he will command a decent contract on the open market. But if Rivers wants to join a team that provides some stability, he isn't going to find a better option than the Colts.
