In 2018, cornerback T.J. Carrie received interest from many teams around the league in free agency. However, when Carrie entered free agency this year, he had trouble signing with a team.

“Yeah, I think this free agency process was a lot different,” Said Carrie, via Jim Ayello of the Indianapolis Star. He continued:

“It was, should I say, uncharted waters in the sense where it’s different this time around [with] the type of contract that we are trying to look for, the expectations going into this year.”

Carrie was able to sign a one-year contract with the Indianapolis Colts worth the veteran minimum, including just $300,000 guaranteed. In his conversation with Avello, Carrie revealed why he and his team decided to sign with the Colts.

“We wanted to be in the best fit possible for us to still be able to have a chance to compete while still [helping] mold and shape guys seeing that this will be my seventh year … When we had the option to join the Colts, it was a great fit in talking to [secondary coach Jonathan Gannon] … .He explained to me that, ‘Man, look there is an opportunity for you to compete and at the same time we are young so your veteran leadership on and off the field is much needed from that standpoint.’”

This past season with the Cleveland Browns, Carrie recorded 52 tackles, one interception and one forced fumble. In addition, Carrie allowed quarterbacks to complete 68.3 percent of the passes thrown in his direction.

Nevertheless, Carrie will certainly be trying to play his best with the Colts in order to reset his value.
