The Chicago Bears acquired quarterback Nick Foles in a trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars last month, but before the Bears landed him, another team was making a serious push. That team was the Indianapolis Colts.

According to Dan Pompei of The Athletic, the Colts were involved in the bidding for Foles, who the Jaguars dealt to Chicago for a fourth-round draft pick.

Of course, Indianapolis ultimately ended up signing Philip Rivers in free agency.

Jacksonville inked Foles to a four-year, $88 million deal last offseason with the hope that he would be its franchise quarterback, but obviously, things did not pan out that way.

Foles suffered a collarbone injury in Week 1, paving the way for rookie sixth-round pick Gardner Minshew to step in. Minshew was impressive filling in for Foles, so much so that he ended up taking Foles' job for good after Foles returned later in the season and was unimpressive.

The Jags then made the decision to commit to Minshew long term by sending Foles to the Bears.

As for the Colts, Andrew Luck blindsided the club when he announced his retirement just before the 2019 regular season began. Jacoby Brissett assumed the role of starter and got off to a terrific start, leading Indianapolis to a 5-2 record over the first seven games and even representing a fringe MVP candidate.

However, during the second half of the season, Brissett's production tailed off considerably, and the Colts faded by going just 2-7 over their final seven contests.

Due to Brissett's second-half struggles, Indy made the decision to go in another direction under center.
