Washington Commanders owner Daniel Snyder didn't show up to testify at Wednesday's hearing in front of the Committee on Oversight and Reform of the House of Representatives, which is being conducted as part of the investigation into the organization. Right before the hearing began, however, a Snyder spokesperson released a nasty statement complaining about the proceedings and the preliminary findings that had been released.

Here's the statement:

Committee chairwoman Carolyn B. Maloney (D-N.Y.) excoriated Snyder for his refusal to show up, calling him out for being on his luxury yacht in France. Maloney then went on to announce that she will subpoena the Commanders owner for a deposition next week:

This obviously ups the ante a bit for Snyder, who has been rather defiant up to this point and was also accused of running a “shadow investigation” as an actual investigation continues into him and the Commanders organization. There are also sexual assault allegations against Snyder.

Maloney's subpoena announcement came during NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell's testimony in front of the committee. Goodell acknowledged the toxic workplace fostered within the organization but also said there have been improvements made and that Snyder has faced accountability for his actions. Goodell also said he has no control over whether Snyder testifies or not.

There's still a lot to play out when it comes to Daniel Snyder and the Commanders. Would he dare defy this subpoena? Will he wind up getting forced out? Goodell seems to think Snyder and the organization have faced proper accountability, but that's hard to believe and more damning details could still come out as the investigation continues.
