Summer League isn't just a time for players to try and prove their worth to NBA teams. Officials are in that position as well.

Typically, during a summer league game, the three-man referee crew consists of one NBA official and then two other D-League refs. That may explain the way the end of the TimberwolvesRaptors game went down.

With the score tied 79-79, Minnesota point guard Tyus Jones was fouled on a shot from the corner with 0.4 seconds left. He made both free throws to lift the Timberwolves to a win and knock out Toronto.

Here's the controversial foul call, as you will clearly see Jones kick out his right leg; many onlookers feel that the foul should have actually been on Jones.

Despite this play, or possibly helped by it, Jones went on to be named MVP of the Las Vegas Summer League.

Because these games don't really mean anything, there won't be any Last-Two Minutes review. In the end, the Raptors pretty much got robbed. At least they weren't in the lead at the time. They still would've had to win in overtime, but they shouldn't have lost in regulation.

This type of incorrect call probably doesn't happen in an NBA game with three NBA-caliber refs. Officials take a lot of heat and often deservedly so, but times like this it's clear just how much better NBA refs are than even refs who work in the D-League.
