Carolina Hurricanes announcer John Forslund has self-quarantined himself after staying in the same hotel room as Utah Jazz Rudy Gobert.

Forslund occupied the same room as Gobert about 30 hours after the Jazz center stayed in the room in Detroit, Michigan. The news comes just days after it was confirmed that Gobert was the first NBA player to test positive for the coronavirus. The NBA has suspended its season due to the pandemic.

“Carolina Hurricanes play-by-play announcer John Forslund has self-quarantined himself in fear of the coronavirus after staying in a hotel room once occupied by Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert, who was the NBA's first positive test for the disease this week. Forslund stayed in the exact room in Detroit, Michigan approximately 30 hours after Gobert, prompting a decision to quarantine, according to ABC 11.”

Another Hurricanes employee was also in the same room that Jazz player Donovan Mitchell had occupied. Mitchell would later test positive for the coronavirus, contracting it from his teammate.

The NBA's shutdown if its league has prompted other sports leagues to act in response. Not long after the NBA's decision, the NHL, MLB, XFL and NCAA also halted their seasons. NASCAR and the PGA Tour have also postponed or cancelled their events originally scheduled for this weekend.

It had also been previously reported that a child in Rhode Island had contracted the coronavirus. That same child had recently received an autograph from Gobert. It is unclear at this time if the child contracted the virus directly from Gobert.
