Did Jalen Ramsey play his last game as a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday night?

The prevailing thought seems to be that Ramsey is done in Jacksonville following a heated sideline confrontation with head coach Doug Marrone last week that led to the cornerback being chastised by Jags management in a meeting after the game.

Ramsey then demanded a trade and went on to say that he has no issues with Marrone, specifying that it was the Jaguars front office who rubbed him the wrong way with some “disrespectful” comments.

While no one knows for sure who said what and what was said, one can glean that Ramsey's problem stems from Tom Coughlin, a well-known blue-collar guy who doesn't tolerate any guff.

And realistically, Ramsey does not seem like Coughlin's type of player.

The 24-year-old is loud, brash and flamboyant, and while his personality is endearing to many, it surely grates on the nerves of someone like Coughlin, who has a history of being a no-nonsense type of guy.

Remember how much Coughlin clashed with Jeremy Shockey during his time with the New York Giants? And remember how the Giants jettisoned Shockey after winning the Super Bowl with him injured during the 2007-08 campaign?

Basically, Coughlin doesn't care how talented you are; if you don't line up with his philosophy of how a player should act, you're gone.

Whether or not you agree with Coughlin's hard-line stance is immaterial here. It doesn't matter what we think. Coughlin calls the shots in Jacksonville, so if he feels Ramsey is not on board with his vision, he won't be around very long.

That is, unless owner Shad Khan, who is reportedly a huge fan of Ramsey and is willing to make him the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL, steps in and tries to sway Coughlin.

Obviously, that's easier said than done, as Coughlin is as stubborn as they come, but there is also no doubting that Ramsey is a phenomenal talent, and the fact that he is under contract through the end of 2020 has to make Khan think there is time to get things worked out.

But it's also up to Ramsey, who doesn't seem all that thrilled about playing for the Jaguars at the moment, and it's entirely possible that management said things to him that he won't forget.

Again, we don't know for sure what happened in that meeting, but based on the type of person Ramsey seems to be, he might not be so amenable to accepting any apologies. And let's not forget that Ramsey's bad blood with the front office stems back to the offseason when he felt that the Jags were undervaluing him in contract talks.

Anything is possible. The Jaguars and Ramsey could end up smoothing things over. But at this point, it doesn't seem likely.
