Courteney Cox’s net worth in 2021 is estimated to be $150 million. This is agreed upon by multiple reputable sources such as Celebrity Net Worth.

Courteney Cox is born in Birmingham, Alabama. She is one of three daughters of businessman Richard Lewis Cox and Courteney Copeland. Her two older sisters are Virginia and Dorothy, while her older brother is Richard Jr.

Cox graduated from Mountain Brook High School and then she attended Mount Vernon College in Washington, D.C. — which is now part of George Washington University. However, she did not finish her degree in architecture as she decided to pursue a career in acting and modeling.

In Bruce Springsteen’s 1984 music video for “Dancing in the Dark”, Courteney Cox appeared as the woman invited to dance onstage at the St. Paul Civic Center with Bruce Springsteen.

She then had her first starring role in the short-lived science-fiction fantasy series from NBC called Misfits of Science in 1985. Cox also had guest-starring roles in the ABC comedy-drama series “The Love Boat” and the CBS crime drama series “Murder, She Wrote”.

Cox had a recurring role as Lauren Miller, the girlfriend of Michael J. Fox’s character Alex P. Keaton, in the NBC comedy series “Family Ties”. She also appeared as Jerry Seinfeld’s girlfriend in an episode of Seinfeld.

Aside from her TV roles, Courteney Cox appeared in multiple movies such as Masters of the Universe (1987), Mr. Destiny (1990), I’ll Be Home for Christmas (1988), and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective alongside comedy legend Jim Carrey.

In 1994, Courteney Cox was asked to audition on a new sitcom for the starring role of Rachel Green. She was cast as Monica Geller instead while the Rachel Green role went to Jennifer Aniston.

The cast was then formed and the show was called Friends.

Due to Cox’s multiple TV and film appearances before Friends, she was the most famous cast member of the new show. The cast includes Jennifer Aniston as Rachel Green, Lisa Kudrow as Phoebe Buffay, Matt LeBlanc as Joey Tribbiani, David Schwimmer as Ross Geller, and Matthew Perry as Chandler Bing.

Friends was about six friends in their 20s and 30s living in Manhattan, New York City, as they try to push through the challenges in life. The show aired its pilot episode on September 22, 1994, on NBC and it ran for 10 seasons with the series finale airing on May 6, 2004.

The series finale had 52.5 million viewers in the United States alone, making it the most-watched entertainment telecast since Seinfeld in 1998. It was also the fourth most-watched series finale in TV history behind M*A*S*H, Cheers, and Seinfeld.

Friends is widely considered to be one of the greatest TV shows of all time. During its run, the series was nominated for 62 Primetime Emmy Awards, winning the 2002 Outstanding Comedy Series Award.

The show is ranked No. 21 on TV Guide’s 50 Greatest TV Shows of All Time, as well as No. 7 on Empire magazine’s The 50 Greatest TV Shows of All Time.  In 2013, Friends was ranked No. 24 on the Writers Guild of America’s 101 Best Written TV Series of All Time.

On May 27, 2021, the cast of Friends reunited for a reunion special that was aired on HBO Max. The reunion special was nominated in the Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded).

Aside from her success with Friends, Courteney Cox garnered critical acclaim and recognition for her performance as Gale Weathers in the slasher horror film Scream which premiered in 1996. Due to the film’s success, it spawned sequels Scream 2 (1997), Scream 3 (2000), and Scream 4 (2011) — in which Cox reprised her role.

A fifth installment in the film series will premier on January 14, 2022, and it will simply be titled “Scream”. Courteney Cox will reprise her role as Gale Weathers.

In 2009, Cox starred in the ABC comedy series Cougar Town. This is the most successful role that Cox had since Friends as her performance earned her a nomination for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress — Television Series Musical or Comedy. She also won the Gold Derby Award for Comedy Lead Actress.

Cougar Town aired for six seasons and its series finale premiered on March 31, 2015.

Courteney Cox made her directorial debut, as well as a cameo appearance, in the television drama film TalhotBlond which premiered on June 23, 2012. In 2014, she directed her second movie titled Just Before I Go, a dark humor film starring Seann William Scott and Elisha Cuthbert.

She executive produced a game show titled “Celebrity Name Game”, hosted by Craig Ferguson. The game show ran for three seasons, from 2014 to 2017, and it earned Courteney Cox a nomination for a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Game Show.

Courteney Cox met her then-husband, David Arquette, during the filming of the first Scream movie. The couple married on June 12, 1999. However, Cox and Arquette announced on October 11, 2010, that they have separated. In June 2012, Arquette filed for divorce which was finalized in May 2013.

David Arquette and Courteney Cox started a film and television production company called Coquette Productions. Despite their separation, the two maintain a close friendship and good business relationship running their production company.

Coquette Production has multiple high-profile projects under its banner such as Dirt, Celebrity Name Game, Just Before I Go, The Big Change, and Cougar Town.

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Cox, along with each main cast member, earned $22,500 per episode in the first season of Friends. Their salary went up to $40,000 per episode in the next season. When their contracts were up ahead of the third season, the cast negotiated a deal that would land them $75,000 per episode in season 3, $85,000 per episode in season 4, $100,000 for season 5, and $125,000 for season 6.

Prior to season 7, the cast negotiated once again for a raise and they ended up earning $750,000 per episode in seasons 7 and 8. For the final two seasons, each cast member earned a base salary of $1 million per episode, which totals to $24 million in season 9 and $18 million in season 10.

Aside from their base salary, the cast was able to negotiate to get backend points on the show which would allow them to earn royalties off the show’s sale. Friends continues to earn upward of $1 billion per year from royalties and streaming deals, which means the main cast members can earn around $10-20 million in royalties alone.

Just with the success of Friends, anyone can safely say that Courteney Cox is financially set from this point onward. And with her talent in acting, it is no surprise to see her be successful in other projects as well.
