Courtney Lee wants to make sure that the New York Knicks don’t go unnoticed this season.

The newly-acquired shooting guard, who also figures to start for the team, has high hopes for the Knicks and he elaborated on that belief in an interview for Basketball Insiders.

“We’re contenders, man. They didn’t make the playoffs last year, but we’re looking to change that and win big. The ring is the ultimate goal for everybody on the team; I know it is for me. When they talked to me and told me about the pieces they were adding alongside the players who were already there, I didn’t think anything less than a championship [was the goal]. We’re trying to get the Knicks back into the playoffs and win big. … Everybody is hungry and everybody has their own motivation or chip on their shoulder. We just need to come together, get that chemistry and see it click. Once everybody is together and everybody is hungry, I think we can be very scary.”

New York does hold one of the most potent starting lineups in the league, but it still remains to be seen if these stars can play with each other. The league has seen better lineups, at least on paper, do worse.

Maybe Lee knows something that the general public doesn’t. But one thing’s for sure, and it is the fact that the Eastern Conference is still the Cleveland Cavaliers’ to lose.

If the Knicks are to pose a serious threat against the defending champions, then they still got a long road ahead of them because championships aren’t awarded in September.
