The Dallas Cowboys' contract extension talks with wide receiver Amari Cooper have reached a stalemate.

Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram (via Pro Football Talk's Charean Williams) reported on the development on May 20.

Contract talks between Amari Cooper and the Cowboys remain at a stalemate, Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

The team, though, remains confident of getting a deal done ‘at some point,' Hill adds.

Two weeks ago, the Cowboys reportedly were further in negotiations with quarterback Dak Prescott than Cooper, so the latest news isn't a surprise.

While a new deal for Prescott will make him the highest-paid player in team history, surpassing DeMarcus Lawrence, Cooper is expected to sign a lucrative contract as well with the floor set at $16 million a season.

Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones told ESPN's Todd Archer on May 9 talks between the two sides were “off and running.”

Aside from Prescott and Cooper, running back Ezekiel Elliott is another player the Cowboys want to keep for the long haul, per Archer.

Jones also told Archer it's best if the Cowboys give all three lucrative long-term deals without maxing out. That way, they can “have other good football players around them.”

According to ESPN, the 24-year-old Cooper will make roughly $13.9 million on the fifth-year option of his current contract.

The Cowboys acquired Cooper from the Oakland Raiders in exchange for a first-round selection in the 2019 NFL Draft. That draft pick turned out to be safety Johnathan Abraham of Mississippi State.

Cooper has caught 278 passes for 3,908 yards and 25 touchdowns in 61 career regular-season games with the Raiders and Cowboys.
