The Dallas Cowboys seemingly managed to dodge a bullet after it was revealed that the X-Ray done on wide receiver Amari Cooper's ankle came back negative. It appears the team is now optimistic about his status for Week 4 against the New Orleans Saints.

Cooper has been able to log in some time at practice this week. According to Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News, team owner Jerry Jones is optimistic that he will be able to play.

“Yes, I feel very good about that.” Based on his ability to push off and overall mobility, “I think we’re in good shape.” Team has scaled back Cooper’s workload in practice this week.

This is certainly an encouraging sign for the Cowboys. Although the Saints are coming into their primetime showdown shorthanded with quarterback Drew Brees out, they still boast plenty of firepower on offense. Having Cooper in the mix will go a long way in their attempts to remain perfect through the first four games of the season.

The 25-year-old is in the midst of a stellar 2019 campaign. He picked up where he left off last season as quarterback Dak Prescott's safety net and has registered 16 receptions for 238 yards and a league-leading four touchdowns thus far. It is safe to say that Dallas will feel much better about their chances in New Orleans if he is able to play.

Cooper's looming long-term extension has seemingly been put on the back-burner with all the lucrative signings the Cowboys' brass made this offseason. Regardless, it has become evident that he is well worth the investment they reportedly plan to make. Of course, it is for this reason that they could opt to take a cautious approach with his recovery by having him sit out a week to avoid further aggravating the injury.
