Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Amari Cooper is entering the final year of his deal, so you would think that there would be a whole lot of drama surrounding the fact that he does not have have a new contract.

However, Cooper is not focused on his extension, saying that the contract is secondary to what he does on the field:

“I'm more focused on actually playing and really earning the respect, and then the contract,” Cooper said, according to Clarence E. Hill Jr. of The Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “I really don't think much about it. I feel like we have time.”

The general consensus is that Cooper will earn a similar deal to what Atlanta Falcons wideout Julio Jones seems in line to make, as it has been reported that the Falcons and Jones are closing in on an extension that will net the receiver around $20 million annually.

“That is why I am not worried about it,” added Cooper. “I feel like they are active about [the discussions]. They want to get it done. …The market has gone up. I am happy about that. I feel we are in a good place. I feel blessed.”

Cooper arrived in Dallas midway through the 2018 campaign after coming over in a trade with the Oakland Raiders, and in nine games with the Cowboys, he hauled in 53 receptions for 725 yards and six touchdowns. On the season overall, Cooper caught 75 passes for 1,005 yards and seven scores en route to a Pro Bowl appearance.

The 24-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Alabama, was originally selected by the Raiders with the fourth overall pick of the 2015 NFL Draft.
