The Dallas Cowboys are likely to be devoid of wide receiver Amari Cooper for the rest of preseason football. Cooper suffered a heel injury early on into training camp and hasn't practiced since August 6th.

According to ESPN's Todd Archer, the Cowboys will not put his regular-season debut at risk by putting him out for the “dress rehearsal” third preseason game against the Houston Texans. He won't play for the fourth game, as most NFL teams don't play starters at all then; rather, bench members play to hash out the depth.

Cooper is dealing with plantar fasciitis in his left foot, as he said on Tuesday via The Athletic's Calvin Watkins.

According to the Mayo Clinic, plantar fasciitis is, “one of the most common causes of heel pain. It involves inflammation of a thick band of tissue that runs across the bottom of your foot and connects your heel bone to your toes (plantar fascia).”

Though an injury is worrisome, the Cowboys appear to be going with the cautious approach for the Pro Bowler. When asked if he could be effective with the ailment, Cooper said, via ESPN,

“Real effective. I mean I played with a lot of foot injuries. High ankle sprains. All those things, so I'm pretty good at playing with foot injuries. But I don't think I'm going to have to play with it.”

“I'm not worried about it at all, because I know if it does linger, it doesn't matter,” Cooper said on Tuesday. “I had 1,000 yards when I played on plantar fasciitis before.”

Cooper sounds confident in his ability to play with or without the injury. He should be available for the September 8th regular-season opener against the New York Giants.
