A few days ago, it was reported that Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Amari Cooper sat courtside for Mavs game with fellow wide-out CeeDee Lamb. Cooper, an unvaccinated player, was caught not wearing a mask. This was a violation of the NFL's rules for unvaccinated players, and a punishment from the league was expected.
The punishment was now revealed to be a hefty fine of $15,000 for Amari Cooper, according to ESPN's Todd Archer. A large sum of money for the average Joe, but mere pennies for someone like Cooper, who signed with the Cowboys on a huge $100 million contract.
Cooper also attended the Cotton Bowl with fellow Cowboys teammate Trevon Diggs, and was also unmasked for that event. However, Diggs and Lamb were already vaccinated, and was just “strongly recommended” by the NFL rules to wear a mask. Cooper, on the hand, violated the NFL's protocols for unvaccinated players, which stated that:
“An unvaccinated player can attend a sporting event but must sit in a luxury suite with a mask and not be surrounded by more than 10 people.”
This is disappointing news for Cowboys fans, who expected better out of Amari Cooper. The wide-out already caught COVID-19 earlier this year, forcing him to miss two crucial games in the regular season. Cooper preaching about “isolating enough” and “not wanting to get sick” after their season finale now sounds hypocritical.
Fortunately for the Cowboys, Cooper will not be suspended for their Wild Card matchup against the San Francisco 49ers. They've had a wonderful season, and it would be a shame for it to be unraveled by shenanigans like this one.
