The Dallas Cowboys are up to something, and they will let the rest of the world know what it’s about this coming Friday. For now, the Cowboys are leaving football observers and fans alike speculating on the exact nature of the franchise’s looming announcement.

Among those guessing is Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk, who thinks that it has something to do with Dallas’ Ring of Honor.

The more likely explanation is the announcement of a new honoree into the team’s Ring of Honor, assuming that qualifies as a “football-related matter.” Jason Witten is in town, calling Monday night’s game, but it seems far too early to induct the former tight end, who retired only a few months ago. And Witten and Tony Romo likely are a package deal when the time comes.

It’s also worth noting that it’s team owner Jerry Jones who’s going to make the announcement, so it’s probably something even more special.

Cowboys fans are definitely hoping that Jones would be a harbinger of good news on Friday. Dallas is currently just third in the NFC East division standings with a 3-4 record and is also coming off a 20-17 road loss to the Washington Redskins in Week 7, so the team and its fans could use something positive to bolster their spirits.

The Cowboys are set to face the Tennessee Titans at home on Monday.
