The Dallas Cowboys generated plenty of buzz with the addition of wide receiver CeeDee Lamb to their high-powered offense. They then upped the ante by bestowing upon him their coveted No. 88 jersey, which has only been worn by the most prolific wideouts in franchise history.

According to Clarence E. Hill Jr. Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Lamb is well aware of the expectations that come with wearing the number with the Cowboys.

“That is a legendary number for the legendary America’s team,” Lamb said. “For me to go out there and represent the great legends that have worn that number is a huge presentable moment. I can’t wait to live it out for the first time. I want to continue the legacy of 88. The 88 club is something big in Dallas. I want to live up to it.”

Lamb has not been shy about embracing all the hype heading into the 2020 NFL season after revealing his plans for the Hall of Fame. Although he somehow fell to the Cowboys with the 17th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, they have solidified their goals for him with the jersey choice.

Lamb certainly has some big shoes to fill starting his career off in the shadow of legendary Cowboys such as Drew Pearson, Michal Irvin, and Dez Bryant. He has already received the blessing of his predecessors in Irvin and Bryant, however, the onus will fall on him to find a way to stand out in a Cowboys receiving corps that is already headed by Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup.
