The Dallas Cowboys lost to the San Francisco 49ers in disappointing fashion in yet another early round playoff exit for the franchise. The game ended in controversy, as Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott was attempting to spike the ball to stop the clock when the referees seemingly impeded his path. Angry Cowboys fans threw bottles and other items onto the field after the game. Prescott praised the fans, saying “Credit to them”, immediately drawing the ire of the media, among others. On Tuesday, Prescott issued an apology via his Twitter account for his comments made about the referees.

Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott immediately came out and said that he deeply regretted the comments he made towards the referees following the loss to the 49ers. Prescott is exactly right that his words were uncalled for and unfair. The Cowboys star continued his apology into another thread on Twitter.

This is perhaps the most important part of Prescott's apology. It was nice that he added the part about respecting the referees, though the big part here is that the Cowboys star recognized that he was threatening the safety of those officials with his comments by encouraging further acts such as the ones that occurred after the Cowboys-49ers game.

Prescott summed up his Twitter apology by acknowledging the mistake and saying he was sorry. It's mature of Dak Prescott to issue this apology towards the referees, though it won't make the sting of the playoff loss or the embarrassment that occurred after fade anytime soon.
