Ezekiel Elliott may very well not report to Dallas Cowboys training camp next week as a result of a contract dispute with the club, but Cowboys players are hoping he will return at some point.

Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott knows the importance of Elliott, saying that the running back opens up the whole offense.

“It does everything [having Elliott],” Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott said Saturday at his annual football camp at Mississippi State, via Mark Lane of WFAA. “It allows the game to open up. When you can run the ball successfully, all it does is open up the passing game, opens up the play-action game. It allows you to be dominant in the second half and in the fourth quarter when you need to be and run out the time. So we’ve got a great group of guys and our running backs are not short of that.”

Elliott is under contract through 2020 and is due to make $3.9 million this coming season and $9.1 million in 2020, but the 23-year-old seems concerned about his future.

He is coming off of a 2018 campaign in which he racked up a league-leading 1,434 yards and six touchdowns while averaging 4.7 yards per carry. In addition, he hauled in 77 receptions for 567 yards and three scores en route to a Pro Bowl appearance.

Elliott, who played his collegiate football at Ohio State, was originally selected by the Cowboys with the fourth overall pick of the 2016 NFL Draft. He paced the NFL with 1,631 rushing yards and also punched in 15 scores on the ground during his rookie year, earning both a Pro Bowl selection and First-Team All-Pro honors.

He was then limited to just 10 games in 2017 due to a suspension.
