Dak Prescott says he is finally “starting to click” with his new wide receivers — Allen Hurns, Tavon Austin, Deonte Thompson, and rookie Michael Gallup. But in that four-man group, Austin has been the one who’s caught the Dallas Cowboys QB’s eye with his performance in camp.

“I’d say Tavon for the simple fact, in the other place he was, I didn’t know he was as good of a receiver as he was and could run routes as well as he does, and catch the ball every single time,” Prescott said per Clarence E. Hill of the Star-Telegram. “For me, from that standpoint, he’s not just a gadget, gadget guy. You don’t have to run him on speed sweeps and all that steps opens up the offense and you can use him there as well. He’s a guy you can put out there, inside, outside and trust he’s going to get open.”

Prescott, who also voiced his optimism about Austin earlier this offseason, isn’t the only one who’s high on the new wideout. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones recently mentioned Austin in the same breath as Hall of Famer and Dallas great Michael Irvin.

Austin has had a lot of hype surrounding him for most of his NFL career. However, the former top-10 pick failed to deliver on that promise during his five years with the Rams. Although, he blames the team’s system for his inability to live up to his potential.

But Austin appears to be doing well enough in his transition to Dallas’ system, which apparently plans to use him in interesting ways. It’s still way too early to tell if Austin can finally follow through on his talent, but for now, he has a big believer in Prescott, who could be crucial to his success as a Cowboy.
